It was just some people racing from the pier to the top of La Cumbre peak. There wasn’t a set route: part of the race was knowledge of local roads and trails. This was before GPS was common, before the Web even existed. Did any of the runners plan by analyzing a topo? I know some, fans of walking in the Sierra, were fluent.
No entry fee, no race announcement, no bibs, no teeshirt with sponsor logos, just local community running from here to there.
